SC/ST & OBC Students from Other States Frustrate in Getting Admission in Pune

All the parents are in the state of euphoria hoping their children will get admission in good college as their children passed in First Division. Most of the people from northeast states belong to economically backward class but they have strong desire to educate their children from a good University like University of Pune. Many parents send their children to University of Pune for further studies since Pune City is popularly known as Educational City of India. The University of Pune also popularly known as “Oxford of the East”.  So many students from other states come for their further studies with great hope and desire. However many students from other states belonging to SC/ST & OBC are frustrated in getting admission in University of Pune and Junior colleges (for Class XI-XII) in recent years. The Educational City of Pune had recently changed the educational policy. Now all the students coming from other states are considered as Open Category even though they belong to Reserve Category. The students coming from other states also need to pay double admission fee and other fees and the Foreign Students need to pay Five times more than the Marathi students. Before the educational policy was changed in Pune – many SC/ST and OBC students got admission in some good colleges like Fergusson, Wadia, BMCC, Symbosis, S.P. Modern College etc. But now the students from other states belonging to SC/ST and OBC are having very less chances to get admission in good college or Junior college in Pune.  The Cut Off percentage of Top Ten College/Junior colleges for Class XI (Eleven) Science Stream in 2004-2005 is given below –1. Laxmanrao Apte Junior College 91.20%2. Fergusson College  88.93%3. S.P. College   86.27%4. Abasahed Garware College 83.73%5. St. Vicents’ High School 83.33%6. Modern College  83.27%7. Jaihind Junior College, Pimpri 83.27%8. Loyala Junior College               82.27%9. Muktangan English Junior College 82.13%10.Nowrojee Wadia College 81.50% The above cut off percentage shows the Top Ten College/Junior College in Pune and if any SC/ST and OBC students from other states want to take admission in Class XI (Science) in Top Ten College/Junior College need to score above 80%. To get admission in Commerce and Humanities (Arts) subject also need similar percentage like in Science Stream. If any of you (Parents) want to send your children to study in Pune in Junior College (for Class XI), you need to make sure that your ward gets not less than 70%. Secondly, all the Class XI students are compulsory to take Optional subject/language like Marathi, Hindi, German or French. There are 100 College/Junior Colleges in Pune but only 30 College/Jr Colleges have optional subject like German and French. To get admission in Pune for Class XI is becoming very difficult for the Reserve category students but the admission fee and other fees are almost 10 times cheaper than Delhi. However admission fees and other fees for Graduation and Post graduation in Pune is similar with Delhi UniversityI personally would like to suggest to all the PARENTS in North Eastern States that if your ward cannot get admission in Top Ten College in Pune or any other cities in India with 60%-70% in Class X (Ten) or 10+2, it is not worth to send your ward to study in average colleges in other cities. It is because the good college in own state is better than the average college in other city. Secondly your ward can get admission in good college in your own state with 60%-70%. Secondly the living expenditure is also will be cheaper studying in your own states.
