IMPHAL, Dec 26 (NNN): A sit-in protest was carried at Rishophung village today against the molestation of a girl by three youths on December 24 evening. Rishophung is located under Senapati district but falls under Lamlai police station of Imphal East district.
According to protestors, on December 24 following the announcement of the bandh relaxation, 13 persons had headed for their homesteads to join the Christmas from Nagaram, Imphal. At Lamlong Bazar, some bandh supporters who told these 13 persons that the bandh was not relaxed and caned two of them by the bandh supporters at around 1:30 pm. When they reached a place called Napetpali area, three persons identified themselves as cadres of the militant outfit KCP stopped them. The three persons separated the males and females.
There were seven females and 6 males. One cadre guarded the female group while one of them took care of the male group. The third cadre dragged away a class X girl who is 15 years old to a secluded place and molested. The cadre was just attempting to rape when the girl escaped and came running towards the group. At this juncture, all the detained persons shouted and screamed to the top of their voice when the three cadres ran away.
The 13 persons too ran for their life at this moment. The incident happened at a paddy field. The 13 villagers when they reached Nongren village, they narrated their ordeal. The women folks of that village alerted the police. The police in turn nabbed the three persons.
The three accused are identified as one Angom Chandra, a former KCP cadre, one Tensubam Amit and one Khaidem Bungo. They are all 21 years old and hail from the area. Seven mobile phone handsets, Rs 2500 and one IPod have been taken away by the three accused, added the villagers today.
