The Naga Mothers’ Association has taken serious note of the defamatory statement made by Mr. Thepfulhouvi Solo against the NMA, in his article published on the 3rd October 2013 in leading dailies. The NMA strongly objects to his sweeping statement that the NMA including other NGOs
have failed to protect the interests of the Nagas of Nagaland
. It is most unfortunate that Mr. T. Solo has not only revealed his ignorance about the Constitution of the NMA , but also his inability to recognize the contribution of the NMA in upholding the interests of not only Naga women, but men and children in the state of Nagaland, since the formation of the NMA. Therefore, the NMA is compelled to make the following clarifications:
1. The Naga Mothers Association is the bonadfide Apex Organization of the following tribe women organizations residing within the state of Nagaland: Angamimiapfu Mechu Krotho, Sumi Totimi Hoho, Chakesang Mothers Association, Pochury Mothers Association, Kyong Eloe Hoho, Kuki Mothers Association, Zeliang Mepui Organisation and Rengma
2. The NMA also closely works in collaboration with the Watsu Mongdang, six tribe constituents of the Eastern Naga Women Organization and the Naga Women Hoho Dimapur
, on all issues related to protection of Naga women’s rights
and violence against women
and children, their welfare and security.
3. The NMA does not have any constituent units from other Nagas outside the State of Nagaland, nor is it affiliated to any. However, as a mother’s organization, the NMA has consistently raised its voice on violations of women’s rights and human rights, any forms of violence and advocated for peace, both within and outside the state, in the greater interest of the Nagas as a people.
Over the decades of conflict and senseless killings, the NMA has been involved in peace building, peacemaking and peacekeeping processes through the NMA Peace Team as well as its tribe women units , living on its motto of ‘Shed no more blood”. The NMA is also represented in the Forum
for Naga Reconciliation through its nominee into the forum. As a frontrunner organization in bringing societal changes and accountability in governance, the NMA has continuously raised its serious concerns with respective authorities in the state on Education, Health, Corruption, Domestic violence
and Crimes and Violence against women, women and child rights, Violations of human rights
, Natural Resources
and Environment. The denial and delay in implementation of Naga women’s right through reserved seats to the municipal and urban bodies has compelled the NMA and other women’s organizations to seek legal justice in the Supreme Court for Naga women residing in the state of Nagaland. We believe that as mothers we dream of a better future of the Nagas, our children, the society and our state of Nagaland, filled with peace and the hope of gender equity.
We hope that in future such defamatory sweeping statements, not based on fact, will be avoided by the learned writer, who has now taken on the important mantle to lead the NTC. MExN

Solo’s statement defamatory: NMA
Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has taken a serious note of what was described as “defamatory statement” made by Thepfülhouvi Solo against it in his article published by local dailies on October 3.
NMA in a statement, expressed strong objection to Solo’s “sweeping statement” that it along with other NGOs failed to protect the interests of the Nagas of Nagaland.
It said that Solo had not only revealed his “ignorance” about the constitution of the association but his “inability to recognize” the contribution of NMA in upholding the interests of not only Naga women but men and children in Nagaland since its formation.
NMA said it was compelled to make the clarifications, by reminding that it is the bona fide apex organization of the following tribe women bodies within the state of Nagaland: Angamimiapfu Mechu Krotho, Sumi Totimi Hoho, Chakesang Mothers Association, Pochury Mothers Association, Kyong Eloe Hoho, Kuki Mothers Association, Zeliang Mepui Organisation and Rengma Mothers’ Association.
NMA also said it also closely works with Ao Watsu Mongdang, six tribe constituents of the Eastern Naga Women Organization and Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, on all issues related to protection of Naga women’s rights and violence against women and children, their welfare and security.
NMA also reminded that it has no constituent units from other Nagas outside the state of Nagaland nor was it affiliated to any of them.
Further, NMA asserted that it had consistently raised its voice against violations of women’s rights, human rights and any forms of violence and advocated peace both within and outside the state.
NMA also pointed out that over the decades of conflict and senseless killings, it had been involved in peace building, peacemaking and peacekeeping processes through its peace team as well as tribe women units living on its motto “Shed No More Blood.”
NMA also informed that apart from having representation in the Forum for Naga Reconciliation, it is a frontrunner organization in bringing societal changes and accountability in governance. NMA also said it has been demanding the implementation of Naga women’s right of representation through reserved seats to local bodies.
NMA said it hoped that such “defamatory sweeping statement” in future that was not based on fact, would be avoided by the “learned writer” who has now taken on the important mantle to lead the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC).
It may be recalled, that the Naga Hoho and NSF in a joint statement on October 20, had stated that the three bodies -Naga Hoho, NSF and NMA-had at their October 19 meeting, resolved to seek clarification/proof from Thepfülhouvi Solo on his article as published in local papers on October 3.
