Trusting Social Networking Friends

Today social networking has become a real life for many people. In olden days, reading book in leisure time is one of the habits for many people but today spending their leisure time in social networking sites have become their habits. For many people Facebook has become their real book. Social networking has many positive and negative aspects – there is individual freedom of expression – there is also freedom of criticism and allegation, which affect the Govt., religion and the society. Today some of the countries have banned some social networking sites due to some negative aspects. In social networking sites, you can create many fake accounts as many as you want and you come to meet many people with fake name, profile picture, location, occupation and many others wrong information.

Why you should not trust your social networking friends?

In Facebook, you will meet your own father, son, daughter, wife as a stranger. A graduating college student will act and talk like a senior Professor in the University or veteran politician, a poor boy will act like a Millioner, a married man or woman will act like bachelor. Some years back, the quarrelsome husband and wife came to meet online with their fake accounts. They started to meet online and chat almost every day. Husband used to be in the office and wife used to be at home and meet online with their fake account. After dating online for almost six months, they fell in love deeply.

One day, they decided to date in real life and decided to meet in a restaurant. They have also informed to each other about the dresses to wear on that day so that they can easily recognize each other. Both of them were excited and they came to restaurant for their first date in real life. When both of them reached the restaurant, they were shocked to see each other. Seeing his wife, husband started to shout at her.  Then his wife also started to yell at him. Both of them had a big fight on that day and they were divorced after a week.

Many incidents have happened in social sites and in chat rooms in the past but the similar incidents keep happening again and again as the new users keep joining every day. Today, Facebook is becoming very popular across the globe – the less developed regions like North East India is becoming very popular as they would be able to access through their mobile phone. Another real incident happened in north east India – a foreigner lady came to meet a pretentious rich man from Assam. They fall in love through chatting in social site, later she came to Assam to marry him. However, after she came to know the poor living condition of her boy friend, she left him. It is not advisable to trust and fall in love with the stranger in social networking site. In addition to above incidents, there are many fraud lotteries and jobs happening almost every day and one need to be more cautious this day.

How can you trust a stranger in social site?

Many gullible people trust their friends in Facebook. But how can you trust someone when you don’t know him or her personally? It is difficult to trust a stranger online. But when they become acquaintance with each other through chatting or discussing in public forum, it may be possible to trust other people. It is easier to trust someone when we have similar interest, ideas and principles. When a young boy or girl is desperately looking for a friend, it will be more convincing to trust someone online but looking for a friend out of desperation is very risky in life. No all the friends are trustable but there are also many trustable friends in social networking sites.

Many of you may not believe me but I have some trusted friends in Facebook. I have never met or seen in real life but one of my friends in Facebook from Nagaland asked me to book flight tickets and I have booked for him. I never doubt about him and he deposited the same amount in my Bank account within a week. Naga Educational Trust is another good example – we have not met or seen each other in real life, but we came to know each other through Facebook and we have formed the Board of Trustees of “Naga Educational Trust”. When we are mature enough to understand other and have similar interest and principle, it becomes easier to trust someone. We may have many good friends in Facebook, but we cannot easily trust everyone like someone within our friends circle in real life.

In conclusion,

I would suggest considering the following attributes to trust someone online i). One should be able to understand and read the mind of the strangers or acquaintance friends. ii) Trusting someone you have never seen or met him or her in real life is fully depending on mutual understanding and trust. iii). It is therefore, advisable to trust someone only when you know someone thoroughly.
